Process Heater Burner for a Chemical Stream
A 3 MW process heater feeding a petrochemical stream needed stable tube-wall temperature without hot spots. Weishaupt burners with Siemens ratio control held the process setpoint and saved gas.
The challenge
Hot spots on the heater tubes threatened tube life and process upset.
Process temperature had to track the stream flow without manual trimming.
The plant required clean, low-NOx combustion for its permit.
Any burner trip stopped the stream and cost heavily.
What we supplied & did
Selected Weishaupt WML60 burners for even, distributed tube heating.
Fitted a Dungs safety valve train with leak test and dual shutdown.
Added a Siemens RWF55 air/fuel ratio controller tied to the process thermocouples.
Tuned the flame to avoid direct impingement on the tube walls.
Measured results
What changed on the line
Even tube heating removed hot spots and extended tube life.
Ratio control tracks stream flow automatically, holding the process setpoint.
Low-NOx firing met the plant permit.
Gas use fell 9-12% versus the prior burner.
