View details →What pressure switches do on a burner
Pressure switches are the safety interlocks that prove the burner has what it needs before it starts: an air pressure switch confirms the fan is delivering combustion air, gas pressure switches confirm minimum and maximum gas pressure, and on oil installations similar devices monitor pump and atomising pressure. If a switch does not close at its setpoint, the controller will not open the safety valves at all.
Two figures define a switch: the pressure it operates at and the differential before it drops back, along with the media it senses, its pressure range, the connection thread and the electrical rating of the contact. A switch set too close to the working pressure will chatter and cause nuisance lockouts; one set too far away will not catch the fault it exists to catch.
- Typical symptoms: burner will not start with no attempt at flame, intermittent lockouts on air or gas pressure, switch chattering at its setpoint.
- Send us the switch code and the pressure it is set to, or the burner model and what the switch is proving.

Pressure FAQs
My burner will not start and never attempts to light — could it be a pressure switch?
Yes — that is the classic signature: the controller never sees the air or gas pressure proof it needs, so it never opens the safety valves. Send us the burner model and which switches are fitted, and we will help you verify setpoints before ordering replacements.
