Case Study · Paper & Tissue
High-Velocity Burner for a Paper Dryer Section
A tissue machine dryer section needed vigorous hot-air impingement without blowing the sheet. Eclipse high-velocity burners with modulating control held hood temperature and cut energy use.
The challenge
The dryer hood needed strong impingement to lift moisture without lifting the sheet off the roll.
Old burners gave poor turndown, so hood temperature swung with machine speed.
Energy per tonne of tissue was above the benchmark.
Any burner fault stopped the whole machine, so reliability was critical.
What we supplied & did
Fitted Eclipse TJ60 high-velocity burners angled for controlled impingement on the sheet.
Installed a Dungs safety valve train with leak test and dual shut-off.
Added UV flame detection and modulating control linked to the hood thermocouples.
Tuned jet velocity on site to maximise heat transfer without sheet flutter.
Measured results
What changed on the line
Hood temperature tracks machine speed, so moisture profile stays consistent.
Wide turndown removed the temperature swing at low machine speed.
Energy per tonne fell 11-15% against the prior baseline.
Rugged high-velocity burners run long machine campaigns with few faults.
