Case Study · Waste to Energy
Auxiliary Burner for a Waste Incineration Kiln
A 5 t/day rotary kiln needed an auxiliary burner to hold 850C in the secondary chamber through lean waste loads. A Weishaupt WML50 burner with UV detection kept destruction efficiency up and emissions compliant.
The challenge
Lean or wet waste loads dropped chamber temperature, risking incomplete destruction.
The old auxiliary burner could not modulate down for low-load periods.
High chamber temperature and corrosive flue gas stressed the burner.
Emission limits on CO and NOx were strict and audited.
What we supplied & did
Fitted a Weishaupt WML50 auxiliary burner sized for the 850C secondary chamber.
Installed a Dungs safety valve train with leak test and dual shutdown.
Added UV flame detection rated for high-temperature, dusty flue gas.
Tuned modulation to track waste calorific swing and hold the setpoint.
Measured results
What changed on the line
The secondary chamber holds 850C through lean loads, lifting destruction efficiency.
Modulating auxiliary firing removed the low-load temperature dip.
UV detection survives the hot, corrosive flue environment.
CO and NOx stayed within the audited limits.
