Case Study · Ferrous Foundry
Cupola Preheat and Ladle-Drying Burner for a Foundry
A 3 t cupola and its ladles needed reliable preheat and drying between casts. A Weishaupt WML40 burner with a certified train shortened dry time and cut gas use.
The challenge
Ladles dried too slowly, delaying the next cast and the shift plan.
The old burner's low turndown flameout at hold temperature broke the dry cycle.
Foundry dust and heat stressed the flame-safety components.
Gas use per tonne of iron was above the works target.
What we supplied & did
Fitted a Weishaupt WML40 modulating burner for preheat and ladle drying.
Installed a Dungs safety valve train with leak test and dual cutoff.
Added Honeywell flame detection rated for dusty, hot foundry air.
Tuned low-load hold to avoid flameout during the long dry phase.
Measured results
What changed on the line
Ladles dry faster, so casts start on time and the shift plan holds.
Stable low-load hold removed flameouts during the dry phase.
Rugged detection copes with foundry dust and heat.
Gas per tonne of iron fell 10-13%.
