Case Study · Steel Rolling

Regenerative Burner for a Steel Reheating Furnace

A 20 t/h pusher furnace needed uniform 1200C billet heating before rolling. Eclipse high-velocity regenerative burners with waste-heat recovery narrowed the gradient and cut gas use.

The challenge

01

The old burners left a temperature gradient along the billet, causing rolling defects.

02

Low turndown misfit the start-stop rolling schedule and flameout at soak.

03

High fuel cost and a carbon target pushed for heat recovery.

04

Frequent door openings swung furnace temperature.

What we supplied & did

01

Fitted Eclipse TJ210 high-velocity regenerative burners for even heat and air preheat.

02

Installed a Dungs safety valve train with leak test and dual cutoff.

03

Added Honeywell flame detection and modulating control linked to the furnace thermocouples.

04

Tuned the regenerative cycle to recover flue heat into combustion air.

Measured results

What changed on the line

Billet heat: 1200C uniform Turndown: Strong, no flameout Gas saving: 12-16% Recovery: Regenerative

High-velocity jets even the billet temperature; rolling defects from gradient fell.

Wide turndown follows the start-stop schedule with no soak flameout.

Regenerative air preheat saved 12-16% gas and cut CO2 per tonne.

Modulating control recovers temperature fast after door openings.
