Case Study · Process Heating

Thermal Fluid (Hot Oil) Heater Burner

A 1.2 MW thermal-oil circuit needed steady oil temperature for a process line. A Riello RLS250-M modulating burner with a certified train held the setpoint and trimmed gas use.

The challenge

01

Oil temperature drift upset the downstream process and the product spec.

02

The old burner cycled and overshot the oil setpoint.

03

Thermal-oil safety rules required tight flame supervision.

04

Gas cost per unit of product was above target.

What we supplied & did

01

Fitted a Riello RLS250-M modulating burner sized to the 1.2 MW circuit.

02

Installed a Dungs safety valve train with leak test and dual shut-off.

03

Added Honeywell flame detection and a Siemens controller for safe starts.

04

Tuned the air/fuel curve on site to hold the oil setpoint tightly.

Measured results

What changed on the line

Oil temp: Stable setpoint Overshoot: Removed Gas saving: ≈ 9% Safety: Tight supervision

Oil temperature holds the setpoint, stabilising the downstream process.

Modulating firing removed the cycling overshoot.

Tight flame supervision meets thermal-oil safety expectations.

Gas use fell about 9% over the run.
